4x World Champion Leo Santos Seminar Last Night

So the Leo Santos seminar last night was awesome.
Not a whole lot of fancy trickery but more some positional options and refinement of some previously known techniques. After all this is what the game of jiu jitsu is about..refined position and tactical movements.

Leo was over at the WEC weigh ins with Diego Nunes and Jose Aldo.
Once Professor Zingano had left the weigh ins and hotel they headed over to the academy where a small handful of us were treated to some great technical instruction by 4x World Champion Leo Santos.

For about 3 hours we trained every thing from takedowns to butterfly guard sweeps and some pretty sneaky chokes.

All in all a very good day capped off by an awesome seminar.
Hopefully we will get to have Leo back soon or head to Brazil for some training with him down there.

How Much Do you Really Care About the Promotion of the Jiu Jitsu Lifestyle???

So one of my teammates and friends Kieran Hussey posted an awesome note via facebook from Hillary Williams.

It seems Hillary is involved with a project called Projeto Cantagalo which is setting out to provide donated used gis to under privileged people in Brazil. In short she is trying to get as many donated gis as she can for men women and children that she will be bringing down the next time she is down there.

I know that there is a lot of us who have some tops and or bottoms laying around that we have yet to pass on or toss out for whatever reason. Well here is the perfect opportunity to give back to the sport that have given you so much.

Here is the link to her posting and the story in its entirety.

You can contact her at the provided address etc for more info.

Do I Really Get To Train with Sengoku Champion and a 4x BJJ World Champion in the Same Night?

I got a message from my professor , Mauricio Zingano yesterday alerting the team that we are going to get to train with Leo Santos (4x BJJ World Champion) and Sengoku champ Marlon Sandro.
Seriously...both in the same night? All I can say is this is why I love the sport of Brazilian Jiu Jitsu and MMA. Its one of the only sports where average competitors and players get to train and compete with people who are at the highest level of the game (I could go on about this more but I want to save this for a future post).

Marlon Sandro, Leo Santos, and Jose Aldo along with the rest of the camp with Matt Simms from Team Zingano.

This should be an absolutely amazing and insightful night for those of us lucky enough to attend.
I will have more on the training later tonight. Possibly some pictures.
This will be awesome.

'The Fighter' Trailer HD

Now this may not be BJJ or MMA related per say but the heart of a warrior to overcome obstacles placed in front of him or herself is something that many of us can relate to. Be it physical, mental or emotional, we all persevere before we succeed.

The Fighter is coming to theaters soon. Mark Wahlberg stars in Paramount Pictures' inspirational biographical drama about the trials and tribulations of Irish Mickey Ward.

Growing up a boxing fan in the city of Lowell Massachusetts and having spent time down at the same gym that Mickey would train in (Ramalho's West End Gym)I am very much looking forward to this film.

Lots of interviews and other stuff in the works

Ive had tremendous response over the past day of this blog being up and i would like to thank everyone who has read and or shared this with friends. People have been asking me what is next and what can we expect in the near future of this blog.

Well some exciting news is I have some great interviews coming up with some favorite world class MMA fighters and Brazilian Jiu Jitsu practitioners.

Currently I am working to put together an interview done with former WEC 145lb champion Mike Brown as well as many others.

Please stay tuned.

Another great weekend of Jiu Jitsu and MMA

This past weekend, Fight to Win Promotions once again put on a great show in the Denver area.
Held at the University of Denver, Colorado on 9-25-2010 at the Magness Arena this day brought out a few hundred competitors including numerous men women and children jiu jitsu players.

If anyone is not familiar with the FIGHT TO WIN Promotions, Seth puts on some great local grappling and BJJ tournaments, with a smooth registration and weigh in process. He has also managed to make these tourneys move quickly with continual action on all mats through out the tournament. Anyone who has competed understands and appreciates and organized and fluid competition schedule through out the day. Who wants to stand around for hours upon hours waiting for their division to start?
Hats off to Seth and his group on another great day on the mats.
to contact him you can visit FIGHT TO WIN MMA here.

Here is the run down of both Men and Womens Gi and No Gi divisions along with the Team Champions.
